GN 817.6 Stainless Steel Indexing Plungers with Sensor for Position Monitoring

May 05, 2026

The GN 817.6 Stainless Steel Indexing Plungers represent a significant advancement in machine component design, merging traditional mechanical locking with modern electronic feedback. These components are specifically engineered for automated environments where manual positioning must be verified by a central control system to ensure process safety and prevent machine damage.

Integrated Position Monitoring Sensors

The core innovation of the intelligent indexing plunger GN 817.6 series is the integration of position monitoring sensors. Unlike standard plungers, this model features a small magnet embedded within the plunger pin. When the pin is engaged, the sensor detects the magnetic field and sends an electronic signal to the machine. This ensures that a machine cycle cannot start unless the plunger is securely locked in the correct position.

 High-Performance Stainless Steel Construction

To meet the rigorous demands of industrial environments, the plungers are manufactured from AISI 303 Stainless Steel. This material choice provides exceptional resistance to corrosion, making the GN 817.6 ideal for use in:

  • Food and beverage processing machinery
  • Chemical and pharmaceutical laboratories
  • Outdoor applications exposed to the elements
  • Wash-down environments requiring high hygiene standards

Operational Warning: To prevent faults, no external magnetic fields should act on the indexing plunger, as they can interfere with the integrated magnet within the plunger pin.

Environmental Resilience:

The sensor is rated for IP 67 protection, making it highly resistant to dust and water immersion. Additionally, it is tested for shock and vibration resistance, which is vital for maintaining reliability in high-intensity automated environments.

Visual Feedback and Signal Output

In addition to the digital signal sent to the control unit, the sensor includes a built-in LED indicator. This allows operators on the factory floor to perform a quick visual check; the LED lights up only when the plunger pin has reached at least two-thirds of its locking depth. This dual-layer feedback system, both electronic and visual minimizes the risk of human error during setup.

Versatile Configurations: Type EB and Type EC

To suit various operational workflows, the GN 817.6 is available in two functional variants:

  • Type EB (Without Rest Position): The pin automatically returns to the engaged position via an internal spring. This is best for safety-critical locking where the pin should never be left retracted accidentally.
  • Type EC (With Rest Position): Allows the plunger to be pulled back and rotated 90 degrees to keep the pin retracted. The sensor continues to monitor the state, providing a "low" signal while the pin is disengaged.

Seamless System Integration

Each unit is supplied as a complete set, including the indexing plunger, sensor, sensor clip, and cable. The adjustable sensor clip allows the cable to be oriented in any direction, ensuring that the GN 817.6 can be integrated into tight spaces without interfering with other machine components. With thread sizes ranging from M8 to M24, it offers a versatile fit for a wide array of industrial frames and fixtures.
